Audio Guide Le Touquet-Paris-Plage
app, one-time €4.99
Le Touquet-Paris-Plage earned its name in 1882 when British investors decided a stretch of pine-backed dunes on the Opal Coast deserved a Parisian ring to it. The result is a resort that is genuinely Anglo-French in its bones: Art Deco hotels, a 6-kilometre beach, and a lighthouse rebuilt from rubble after the Second World War, all within two hours of London.

The Beach of Le Touquet-Paris-Plage
The name 'Paris-Plage' was coined in 1882 to give this stretch of Opal Coast sand a glamorous ring, and the marketing worked: 6 kilometres of fine beach backed by dunes stabilised with maritime pines now form a Natura 2000 protected zone that also hosts the Enduropale motorbike race.
-
02
Westminster Hotel
Built in two phases between 1924 and 1926 on the site of Alphonse Daloz's original castle, this Art Deco landmark with its 130-metre facade of white stone and pink brick counted the Prince of Wales and Edith Piaf among its guests, and received its fifth star as recently as 2021.
-
03
Town Hall of Le Touquet-Paris-Plage
The 38-metre belfry blends English Gothic, Norman, and Art Deco into one building, but the real surprise is inside: frescoes by painter Jeanne Thil illustrate the Franco-British history of the resort, inaugurated in 1931 just as that friendship was at its height.
-
04
Canche Lighthouse
German forces destroyed the original twin lighthouses here in September 1944 during their retreat; the replacement octagonal tower, completed in 1952 and standing 57.6 metres tall with 274 steps, was automated in 2001 and still guides ships 46 kilometres out to sea.
-
05
Palace of Europe (former Casino de la Forêt)
This building has been a casino, a First World War military hospital, a ruin, and, since a 15-million-euro renovation finished in 2020, a cultural centre with a 1,156-seat auditorium named after Maurice Ravel, who attended the original inauguration.
-
06
Étaples Military Cemetery
Few visitors realise that the camp surrounding this cemetery, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and inaugurated by King George V in 1922, was the largest British military camp ever built outside the British Empire, with hospitals treating over 22,000 men at a time; more than 11,500 soldiers are buried here.
-
07
Villa Le Castel
Built in 1904, this was the very first villa on what is now Rue Jean-Monnet, making it the physical starting point of Le Touquet's urban expansion; its neo-medieval red-brick turret and Art Nouveau ironwork are now listed as a historical monument, a style unique to this single building in the entire resort.
